Project Overview

In December, the Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF) hosted “Making Waves,” a special film season that brought the vibrant world of Hong Kong cinema to Dublin’s Light House Cinema. The event featured contemporary Hong Kong films and a special screening of Patrick Tam’s Nomad. Our team was tasked with evolving the Making Waves brand identity and creating a cohesive visual presence through poster design and social media marketing. The challenge was to design a brand identity that would resonate with both Dublin audiences and fans of Hong Kong cinema. We aimed to balance contemporary design with nods to classic Hong Kong cinema, reflecting the dual nature of the event.

Design Approach

We began by deconstructing the original Making Waves mark, integrating both modern and traditional elements of Hong Kong cinema to create a dynamic, culturally rich identity. The poster design blended old and new cinematic themes, using a vibrant color palette that echoed Hong Kong’s urban landscape while maintaining alignment with DIFF’s established branding. For social media assets, we developed motion graphics and engaging visuals that generated excitement and increased visibility across digital platforms.
