Facebook is still the reigning social media network. As of the end of 2018, it boasted over 2.32 billion monthly active users. The use of Facebook has evolved through the years so it’s important for marketers to be up to date on the newest statistics.
Here are some of the important Facebook statistics that has caught my attention and I want to share with you.
With 2.41 billion monthly active users as of the second quarter of 2019, Facebook is the biggest social network worldwide. In the third quarter of 2012, the number of active Facebook users surpassed one billion, making it the first social network ever to do so. Active users are those which have logged in to Facebook during the last 30 days. During the last reported quarter, the company stated that 2.7 billion people were using at least one of the company's core products (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, or Messenger) each month.
Worldwide, 1.47 billion people log in daily. Meanwhile, 74 percent of American Facebook users visit daily, with just over half of those checking in multiple times per day. This kind of frequency speaks to the importance of a consistent posting schedule for your Facebook marketing strategy.
An overwhelming majority of Facebook users have accessed the network via tablet or smartphone, according to Statista. Because people access Facebook from a variety of devices, the percentage numbers are over 100%. How can you use these Facebook statistics to your advantage? When creating content and designing ads, always make sure that the mobile preview is set up correctly. If not, then uncheck the ad placement option for mobile.
In the daily routine of an everyday user, social media use of time is only second to watching TV. In terms of social media, users spend an average of 35 minutes a day on the network.
As noted above, it’s very possible that these are multiple logins with different intention types. One login into Facebook may be for checking on friends while another could be for news.
Facebook might be hosting upwards of 8 billion views per day on its platform, but a wide majority of that viewership is happening in silence.
As much as 85 percent of video views happen with the sound off, according to multiple publishers. Take, for instance, feel-good site LittleThings, which is averaging 150 million monthly views on Facebook so far this year. Eighty-five percent of its viewership is occurring without users turning the sound on. Similarly, millennial news site Mic, which is also averaging 150 million monthly Facebook views, said 85 percent of its 30-second views are without sound. PopSugar said its silent video views range between 50 and 80 percent.
